A few major questions are whether the bed has to double as another piece of furniture, such as seating, during the day, or whether it can be concealed when not in use. Is privacy in your sleeping area important? Would curtains provide adequate screening, or would you prefer something more substantial? What do you like to keep by your bed? Have you provided for storage of your alarm clock, reading material and so on?
These questions will dictate how you approach the interior design plan for your sleeping area. Always remember a good bed is a necessity. If you are buying a new one, test it thoroughly to make sure it is right for you. All other interior design ideas pale in comparison to having a, comfortable and supportive place to lay your head down after a hard days work.
Bed Safety Rail
Keeping that in mind you can start with trying to figure out what and how your sleeping arrangement should be. Fold up beds have the distinct advantage of being able to free up a considerable amount of living space. Beds that fold into the wall are concealed behind a vertical surface that can be used for decorative purposes. The disadvantage of the fold-up bed system is that bedding must be packed away when the bed is not in use, which may prove inconvenient when carried out on a daily basis.
Raised beds are also an ideal space-saving interior design idea. A raised platform can be designed with the idea of making you're your dressing room under it. Custom built wardrobes and bedding storage cupboards can be placed under the platform. Make sure you check all safety aspects are in place, including a sturdy rail and a ladder. There should also be enough headroom between the platform and the ceiling.
A bed can be a very large item and can occupy the most space of all your furniture pieces. Dual-purpose beds are an excellent space-saving item - they can double up as seating or storage - or both - during the day, as well as providing a comfortable place to sit. Multi-functional bench-beds are the latest in interior design concepts. Based on the simple principle of a box with a hinged lid, this space-saving bed is constructed in painted MDF with hardwood legs that can be used as a bench, a display shelf, or as a low table. If you prefer a more fixed type of sleeping arrangement then the elegance of a well-crafted truckle bed might tickle your fancy. The space beneath the bed is ideal for storage - whether in deep drawers, mobile containers, or zipped bags, or for a spare pull-out bed. Unless, of course, you have an antique four poster bed that you wish to feature in your sleeping area. It is then vital that more effort is placed into designing or acquiring other space-saving items to compliment the space, or lack there of.
Studio living can be a very compact lifestyle, consider a furniture system and interior design ideas that allows you to adapt the shape and layout as your life changes. Items should be compact and mobile, yet should not compromise anything in the 'comfy' department.
